The FEA approach in the geotechnical field allows to examine in a precise and physically detailed way an important number of complex problems, including:
- Slope stability (2D and 3D)
- Behavior of shallow and piling foundations with complex geometry
- Effects related to the presence and motion of interstitial fluids
- Vibrational and seismic response of soils and rocks
The setting, from the early stages of a project, of an advanced geotechnical calculation model allows you to identify critical issues and risks early and to better simulate both in the actual design phases and in the operational phases (in the presence, for example , of variants necessary during construction). The same model can be successfully used as a basis for geotechnical monitoring in the context of the most relevant and problematic projects.
For years ENVIA has been using a powerful simulation platform based on Code Aster (EDF R&D) capable of coping with the most varied simulations in the field of FEA modeling, including complex multi-physical (thermo-hydro-mechanical) and dynamic phenomena . The EDF-Code Aster platform, in addition to ensuring high levels of quality of the simulations, allows you to “encapsulate” specific calculation routines in order to optimize the resolution of recurring problems, to manage the uncertainty of the input data and of verification scenarios with advanced analysis methods and to build useful derivative software products, for example, as a reference for feasibility studies and monitoring systems.
The joint use of predictive models based on FEA models and deductive models based on geospatial data analysis allows the development of high-level geotechnical consulting products, in reasonably short times and characterized by great adaptability to the most varied design and operational needs.
